WACO, Texas – The Drake University softball team lost to the University of Iowa, 9-0, in its final game of the Getterman Classic.

Iowa scored two runs in the second inning, five more in the fourth and closed out the contest with two in the sixth frame. The Hawkeyes limited the Bulldogs to five hits, while tallying 16.

Seniors Jordan Gronewold (Carlisle, Iowa) and Nicole Randel (Alpine, Calif.) each had one hit for Drake (0-9), while junior Hayley Nybo (Minnetonka, Minn.) recorded one hit along with a walk. Freshmen Kaitlyn Finneran (Morrison, Ill.) and Megan Sowa (Gurnee, Ill.) each collected a hit.

Drake returns to action with its trip to Arizona State on Feb. 20. The Bulldogs will then participate in the Sun Devils' home tournament, the Diamond Devil Invitational, Feb. 21-23. In the tournament, Drake will have a rematch with Arizona State along with contests against Seton Hall, Idaho State and two against Boston College.
