DES MOINES, IOWA ? The Drake volleyball team got a first-hand glimpse of the hottest team in the Missouri Valley Conference on Saturday (Oct. 13) as Wichita State parlayed a .370 attack mark into a 3-0 (30-20, 30-20, 30-21) victory over the Bulldogs.
The Shockers pushed their record to 16-4 on the campaign, including 8-1 atop the league standings, while stinging Drake with its fifth consecutive setback to fall to 5-15 overall and 2-7 in the MVC.
Wichita State dominated the pace of play in each of the first two frames as the Shockers posted identical 30-20 decisions. Drake made a run in the third game but was unable to overcome Wichita State in a 30-21 setback.
Emily Stockman and Angela Jakubov led all players with 11 kills apiece, while freshmen
Angela Bys (Marion, Iowa/Marion) and
Alisa DeBerg Roth (Hudson, Iowa/Hudson) each chipped in eight to pace Drake.
Senior
Sarah Schuster (Indianola, Iowa/Indianola) finished the tilt with her fourth double-double of the campaign turning in a 28-assist, 12-dig performance, both team highs.
The Bulldogs finished the affair striking the ball at a .112 clip. Wichita State recorded advantages in the contest in kills (56-35), assists (49-30), digs (51-43) and blocks (11.0-2.0).
Drake returns to action on Friday (Oct. 19) as the Bulldogs host in-state rival Northern Iowa at 7:00 p.m.
