ST. LOUIS, MO. ? The Missouri Valley Conference announced Monday (Oct. 22) that Drake freshman Angela Bys (Marion, Iowa/Marion) has been selected as both the State Farm/MVC Volleyball Player and Freshman of the Week.

Bys turned in a monster week for the Bulldogs, averaging 6.88 kills, 3.00 digs, 0.75 service aces and 0.62 blocks in helping Drake to a 1-1 ledger.

She began the week recording her fourth double-double of the campaign registering a 22-kill, 12-dig performance, while posting a .211 attack mark versus Northern Iowa on Friday (Oct. 19). She notched 13 kills alone in an epic 40-38 game one, won by the Panthers.

In Saturday's (Oct. 20) contest versus Bradley, Bys hammered a career-best 33 kills to lift the Bulldogs to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory. She added 12 digs to notch her second straight and fifth overall double-double and recorded a Drake season-high five service aces. She committed only eight errors in 70 chances to post a team-best .357 attack mark.

Bys surpassed the 30-kill plateau for the second time in her young career, having reached the milestone with 30 versus Iowa (Sept. 7). She remains the only player in the MVC to have recorded 30 kills in a match this season and leads The Valley with seven 20+ kill efforts this season.

For the year, she averages 4.13 kills and 1.48 digs per game. In league-only competition, she is registering 4.62 kills, 1.73 digs and 0.40 service aces per game and leads the conference in kills and points per game (5.19).

The Bulldogs (6-16) return to action this Friday (Oct. 26), traveling to Normal, Ill., to tangle with Illinois State at 7:00 p.m.
