OMAHA, NEB. ? Eastern Illinois held off the Drake men's soccer team, 1-0, in the opening round action of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship Wednesday night.

Eastern Illinois' Mick Galeski scored the lone goal on the night when he took a free kick from the top of the box which deflected off the Bulldogs defensive wall and popped over Drake goalkeeper Phillip Breuer (Port Washington, Wis.).

Drake sophomore Garrett Webb (Prairie Village, Kan.) had the most scoring chances for the Bulldogs, taking four shots. Each of them appeared to be on cue but missed the goal by only a few feet.

The Bulldogs managed only two shots on goal, but outshot the Panthers, 16-12.

Drake ended the season with a 9-6-4 overall mark.

Eastern Illinois will face No. 2 seeded Creighton in the semifinal round of the tournament on Friday.
