CEDAR FALLS, IOWA ? Momentum is fleeting and for the Drake volleyball team its two-match winning streak was snapped on Saturday evening (Sept. 22) as Northern Iowa registered a 3-1 (30-17, 23-30, 30-21, 30-16) victory over the Bulldogs in the McLeod Center.
The Panthers took the opening frame, 30-17, before Drake squared the match by taking game two, 30-23.
Dropping a game to the Bulldogs at home for the first time in three seasonS, Northern Iowa came out of the intermission and recorded hitting percentages of .405 and .452 in games three and four, respectively to secure the victory and improve to 7-7 overall and 2-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Drake stands at 4-10 on the year, including 1-2 in the MVC following the setback.
Sophomore
Emily Madden (Van Meter, Iowa/Adel DeSoto Minburn) led the Bulldog attack registering her team-leading fifth double-double of the year with a 14-kill, 10-dig performance. Freshman
Angela Bys (Marion, Iowa/Marion) netted a team-best 15 kills, while freshman
Alana Wittenburg (Readlyn, Iowa/Wapsie Valley) and sophomore
Chelsea Lauersdorf (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) added 11 digs and 37 assists, respectively.
Danielle Brazda paced all players with a match-high 16 kills, while hitting a staggering .714 in the contest.
Northern Iowa posted advantages in the tilt in kills (64-52), assists (58-48), digs (61-48), blocks (14.0-6.0) and hitting percentage (.370 to .118).
The Bulldogs return home next weekend, hosting Indiana State (Sept. 28) and Illinois State (Sept. 29). Both matches get underway at 7:00 p.m.
