DES MOINES, IOWA ? The Drake women's soccer team posted 20 shots, including eight shots on goal to down South Dakota State, 2-0, Friday night at the Cownie Soccer Complex.
Drake scored its first goal in the third minute (2:49) of play when
Ali Walsh (Florissant, Mo.) took a feed from
Nikki Thaden (Clive, Iowa) from the top of the box and beat the Jackrabbits goalkeeper Daniella Pappas to the net.
Thaden then scored the Bulldogs second goal in the 62nd minute (61:57) when she took a free kick inside the box.
Drake outshot the Jackrabbits, 20-3, taking12 shots in the second period.
Jenny Schroeder (Albuquerque, N.M.) made one save in goal for the Bulldogs.
Sinead Brown (Toronto, Ontario) and Thaden both led the Bulldogs with four shots.
Elizabeth Woerle (Coon Rapids, Minn),
Crystal Townley (Colorado Springs, Colo.),
Sarah Foote (Arvada, Colo.) and
Katie Anderson (Naperville, Ill.) each recorded two shots for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs, who improved to 2-4-2, return to action Sunday facing Loyola-Chicago at 12 p.m. at the Cownie Soccer Complex.
