DES MOINES, IOWA ? A dominating hitting performance and 10 service aces catapulted 21st-rated Louisiana State to a 3-0 (30-21, 30-17, 30-18) volleyball victory over Drake on Saturday (Sept. 8) at the Hampton Inn State of Iowa Collegiate Volleyball Challenge in the Knapp Center.
The Tigers took advantage of a blistering .343 attack clip, while limiting the Bulldogs to a .039 hitting percentage en route to the triumph. LSU proved to be dominating at the net registering eight blocks to only one for Drake.
Freshman
Mikayla Sims (Waterloo, Iowa/East) directed the Bulldogs with an eight-kill performance. The Tigers garnered 16 and 10 kills, respectively from Kyna Washington and Marina Skender. No Drake player cracked double-figures in digs, while Elena Martinez paced all players with 22.
Sophomore
Chelsea Lauersdorf (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) turned in 20 assists for Drake.
Statistically, LSU won the battle of kills (48-30), assists (42-26), digs (41-33) and blocks (8.0-1.0), while recording 10 service aces to only one by the Bulldogs.
In the finale of the morning session, Iowa State bettered Iowa, 3-0
Drake concludes tournament play on Saturday (Sept. 8) versus in-state rival Iowa State at 7:30 p.m.
