CEDAR FALLS, IOWA -- The Drake women's soccer team closed out a six-game road swing on a winning note with a 3-1 Missouri Valley Conference victory at Northern Iowa Tuesday night.
It marked the Bulldogs' fifth straight victory against Northern Iowa dating back to 2004.
The Bulldogs snapped a three-game losing streak, while improving their record to 2-7-1 including a 1-1 league mark.
Goals by junior Elizabeth Woerle (Coon Rapids, Minn.) and junior Crystal Townley (Colorado Springs, Colo.) staked Drake to a 2-0 halftime lead.
Woerle's goal was on a 15-yard breakway shot from the center off a feed from sophomore Abi Dodds (Topeka, Kan.) at the 21:44 mark.
Townley scored on an assist by junior Karissa Brown (Encinitas, Calif.) at the 38:12 mark.
"We talked during halftime about not coming out complacent, but that is exactly what happened," said Drake soccer coach Lindsey Horner.
"We let the game slip away.
"But the last 20 minutes we created numerous chances and were really dangerous in the attack. We attacked with a lot of confidence."
Freshman Danielle Figliola (Longmont, Colo.) rounded out Drake's scoring with a goal from a feed by sophomore Bailey Dorrington (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) at the 83:03 mark.
Drake outshot Northern Iowa, 11-10. Woerle had five shots on goal for Drake, while Figliola and Townley had two apiece.
Northern Iowa fell to 3-10-1, including 0-2 in the MVC.
The Bulldogs will open a six-game homestand Sunday entertaining Western Illinois in a 1 p.m. match at the Cownie Soccer Complex.
"This win was exactly what we needed," Horner added. "A little momentum and a nice long home stretch will hopefully play to our advantage."
