EAST LANSING, MICH. - The Drake women's tennis team posted a 2-2 record in qualifying round action of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest regional on Thursday (Oct. 23).
Senior
Veronika Leszayova (Povazska Bystrica, Slovak Republic/Gymnazium) dropped a 7-5, 6-3 decision to Amy Allin of Illinois in the main singles draw before rebounding in consolation play to down Juliana Frey of Eastern Illinois, 6-2, 6-2.
Freshman
Gabby Demos (Chesterfield, Mo./Lafayette) moved forward in the draw registering a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Kelcie Klockenga of Iowa. A tight three-set affair then ensued in the second round with Ana Milosavljevic of Michigan State, before Demos suffered a 4-6, 7-6, 6-3, setback.
Doubles play begins on Friday (Oct. 24) with a pair of Drake duos in action. The tandem of seniors
Sarah Plowman (Halifax, Nova Scotia/Halifax Grammar) and Leszayova square off against Miami University's Stephanie Danesis and Megan Martzolf in one pairing, while freshmen
Amanda Aragon (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) and Demos battle Julie Voss and Kelsey Haviland of Ohio State.
