CHICAGO, Ill. – The Drake women's tennis team was again shorthanded in its MVC Championship semifinal match against the No. 1 seed UIC Flames, but the Bulldogs dug deep to earn a 4-1 victory and advance to the conference title match.
Charlotte Deletioglu and Marta Halbersztadt earned a win by default in the third doubles match but like in yesterday's tilt with Bradley, the other two Drake duos came up clutch.
Maja Dodik and
Jordane Dookie won the first match after
Shiori Takeda and
Kristina Tai picked up one of their own. Those two results, both by 6-0 margins, gave Drake the doubles tally to open the contest.
Deletioglu evened the match with another forfeit winner, which proved to be UIC's lone score as the Bulldogs controlled the remainder.
Dodik swept Edit Cosmo, her No. 1 counterpart, before
Milana Dejanovic beat Nia Cooper in the fifth flight.
Two matches ended unfinished as Dookie outlasted Anais Brion in the No. 4 battle by a 6-1, 6-7(4-7), 6-3 score. Dookie's gritty performance gave Drake the clincher and sent them into tomorrow's championship round.
The Bulldogs will see No. 2 seed Illinois State for a chance at league crown and berth into the NCAA Tournament tomorrow morning. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
