OMAHA, NEB. - Fueled by an impressive .414 attack mark, Creighton dealt Drake a 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-9) setback on Friday evening (Oct. 3) in Missouri Valley Conference volleyball action.
The Bluejays evened their ledger at 6-6 overall, including 3-2 in the MVC with the victory and in the process dropped Drake to 8-8 on the year and 1-4 in league action.

Phil McDaniel commented. “We have got to start becoming a little more attentive and focused on the volleyball court. We have got to get ourselves in a better mental state of mind before we play, a little more focused and come out playing the energetic style of volleyball we've been playing all year.”
The initial stanza began with two sides exchanging points before the Bluejays rolled 12 of the next 15 points, including three unanswered to assume a 15-6 advantage. The margin grew to as many as 12 points before Creighton registered a 25-15 set-one victory.
The Bluejays dominated the frame attacking the ball at a .359 clip, while limiting the Drake attack to .047 hitting percentage. Sophomore
Angela Bys (Marion, Iowa/Marion) and junior
Emily Madden (Van Meter, Iowa/Adel DeSoto Minburn) led the Bulldogs with three kills apiece in the stanza.
Using a series of multi-point attacks in the second set, Creighton only twice allowed Drake to score consecutive points en route to recording a 25-14 triumph. The Bulldogs were solid offensively in the set posting a .171 attack mark, but the Bluejays won the set registering a .364 hitting number.
Madden added four kills in the set, while redshirt freshman
Mikayla Sims (Waterloo, Iowa/East) contributed three.
The Bluejays stormed out of the gate in the final set scoring 12 of the first 13 tallies to assume a 12-1 advantage, one they didn't relinquish.
Junior
Chelsea Lauersdorf (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) directed Drake with 22 assists, while sophomore
Alana Wittenburg (Readlyn, Iowa/Wapsie Valley) recorded 10 digs. Madden just missed collecting a double-double fashioning a 10-kill, nine-dig performance.
Amanda Cvejdlik and Jessica Houts paced Creighton with 15 and 13 kills, respectively.
The Bluejays won the statistical battle in kills (49-27), assists (44-26), service aces (4-0), digs (55-41) and blocks (10.0-2.0).
The Bulldogs finished the affair attacking the ball at a .083 clip, while Creighton registered a 2008 Drake opponent high .414 hitting percentage.
The Bulldogs returns to action in one week as Drake faces a road contest at Indiana State on Oct. 10. Match time in Terre Haute, Ind., is slated for 6:00 p.m.
