Drake Falls To Creighton

OMAHA, NEB. ? Andrei Gotsmanov scored the game's only two goals to lift No. 3 Creighton past the No. 24 Drake men's soccer team with a 2-0 Missouri Valley Conference victory Saturday afternoon at Morrison Stadium in Omaha, Neb.

Gotsmanov scored on a free kick at the 13:59 mark. He added the second goal on a touch-in from eight yards out off assists by Ethan Finlay and Jeff Thayer.

"Creighton is a hard place to play -- the surface is difficult, the crowd is loud and playing on someone's senior day is a challenge,” said Drake Head Coach Sean Holmes.

“We looked overwhelmed the first 15 minutes of the game and then we settled down and attempted to focus on the game.”

The Bluejays outshot the Bulldogs, 14-11, including a 6-3 shots on goal advantage.

Sophomore Nick Foster (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) and senior Ryan Moylan (Wauwatosa, Wis./East) had two and one shots on goal for Drake, respectively.

“We never seemed to get into our rhythm today for an extended period of time. As a team that likes to possess the ball when we were unable to do it we looked out of sorts,” added Holmes.

Sophomore Michael Drozd (Albuquerque, N.M/Sandia) collected four saves in goal for Drake.

With the loss the Drake drops to second place in the MVC, falling one point behind Creighton.

The Bulldogs, who fell to 11-4-0 overall and 3-1-0 in conference, travel to Wisconsin Wednesday (Nov. 5), for a 7 p.m. match-up with the Badgers. Drake then finishes the conference portion of the schedule at Evansville Saturday (Nov. 8).

“With our final two games on the road it will be difficult, but if we show up and play with a little more focus than today, then we will be in good shape,” said Holmes.
