WICHITA, KAN. - The Drake women's tennis team concluded its regular season on Sunday (April 20) with a 7-0 setback at Wichita State.
The Bulldogs fell to 9-14 overall, while finishing Missouri Valley Conference action at 3-5, the Shockers registered their 14th consecutive victory to improve to 14-7 on the year, including going 7-1 in conference play with the win.
Wichita State swept both doubles matches to secure a lead it didn't relinquish.
Junior Veronika Leszayova (Povazska Bystrica, Slovak Republic) and senior Irina Kalashnikova (Sochi, Russia) each fought valiantly in singles action before each seeing their personal three-match winning streaks snapped.
Leszayova came up short in a 7-4, 7-6 (5) setback to Stephanie Dalmacio at No. 1, while Kalashnikova won her first set versus Florentina Hanisch at No. 2, before dropping the next two frames in suffering a 6-7 (3), 7-5, 10-6 loss.
The Bulldogs open play at the State Farm MVC Championship on Friday (April 25). Tournament seeding and match times have not been announced.
