DES MOINES, IOWA ? The Drake volleyball team took to the Knapp Center court in its lone scrimmage of the preseason schedule on Saturday (Aug. 23) holding their Blue and White match before tangling in a three-set affair with their alumni.

The squads for the intrasquad scrimmage were a mix of new and old with returnees and newcomers sprinkled onto each roster.

The White team won a tight set in the first frame, 25-23, before the Blue rallied back to post an impressive 25-12 victory in the second and final set.

The two teams then combined to battle for three sets against the alumni. The current Bulldogs took the initial set, 25-18, before the alumni secured the second, 25-22. The deciding frame went in favor of the current batch of Drake players, 25-22.

“It was a great day for us to invite some former players back and get on the court and put the uniforms on again and have a good time,” Drake head coach Phil McDaniel said. “It was a good chance for the people in the community on campus to see what the 2008 version of Drake Bulldog volleyball is going to look like.”

Drake gets its 2008 campaign underway on Aug. 29 against Centenary in Huntsville, Texas, at the four-team Comfort Suites Sam Houston State Invitational. The Bulldogs also faces Ball State (Aug. 29 ? 4:30 p.m.), the host Bearkats (Aug. 30 ? 11:30 a.m.) and Green Bay (Aug. 30 ? 4:30 p.m.).
