Bulldogs Move To 6-0 With 3-0 Triumph Over Green Bay

GREEN BAY, WIS. - Meeting for the second time in a week, the Drake volleyball team pushed its ledger to 6-0 after registering a 3-0 (33-31, 25-17, 25-22) victory over the Phoenix at the Green Bay Country Inn and Suites Classic on Friday evening (Sept. 5).

The Bulldogs are now off to their best start (6-0) since 1995, while Green Bay falls to 2-3 overall.

“Tonight was another solid defensive outing as we posted 10 blocks and 78 digs in three sets,” Bulldog head coach Phil McDaniel explained.  Green Bay came out with energy in the first set and winning the set gave us momentum which we carried over to the rest of the match.”

Junior Chelsea Lauersdorf (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) made a triumphant return to her home state of Wisconsin netting her second double-double of the season with a 35-assist and career-best 20-dig performance.  She also added a career-high three solo blocks.

Sophomore Alana Wittenburg (Readlyn, Iowa/Wapsie Valley) sparked the defensive effort registering a career-best 25 digs for the second consecutive contest.

Another Wisconsin product, junior Lindsay Schryver (Williams Bay, Wis./Williams Bay) chipped in a season-high 14 digs.

Sophomore Angela Bys (Marion, Iowa/Marion) led all players with 17 kills, while junior Emily Madden (Van Meter, Iowa/Adel DeSoto Minburn) contributed 12.

Drake finished the affair with a .188 hitting percentage and allowed the Phoenix to attack the ball at only a .116 clip.  The 78 digs by the Blue and White were a season-best mark.

The Bulldogs bettered Green Bay on the evening in kills (49-40), assists (47-36), digs (78-67) and blocks (10.0-4.0).

Drake closes out its stay at the Green Bay Country Inn and Suites Classic on Saturday as the Bulldogs tangle with Northern Arizona and Fresno State at 1 and 5 p.m., respectively.
