IOWA CITY, IOWA - After being idle for nearly a month, the Drake women's rowing team resumed action Sunday competing at the Head of the Iowa Regatta, hosted by the University of Iowa.
Earlier Drake's effort at the Quad Cities Classic was canceled on Oct. 10 because of poor weather.
Due to high water changes in the Iowa River level, the novice four was canceled, so Drake placed competitors in three races: varsity eight, novice eight and varsity four.
Race results still were not posted as of 9 p.m. Central time Sunday.
Drake head coach
Charlie DiSilvestro thought his team performed well considering it had not competed in a meet since its season opener Sept. 26 at the Head of the Des Moines Regatta.
"We were very happy with our times and placement," said DiSilvestro. "We faced stiff competition today against teams like Iowa, Kansas State and Minnesota which are fully funded programs."
