DES MOINES, Iowa –
The Drake University women's basketball team added four high school
standouts to its 2010-11 roster Wednesday, head coach Amy Stephens announced.
The team signed guards Angela Christianson (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria),
Carly Grenfell (York, Neb./York), Alyssa Marschner (Minneapolis,
Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong ) and Morgan Reid (North Kansas City, Mo./North Kansas
City) to National Letters of Intent, Wednesday.
“We are excited to
have this caliber of off guards in our 2010 recruiting class,” Stephens said. “All
four guards bring different strengths that will improve our guard play and each
young woman exemplifies everything we're looking for in our student-athletes:
academic commitment to excellence, great character and strong work ethic.”

Alexandria High
School
Alexandria, Minn.
Four year starting guard for Alexandria who averaged 20.2
points and 7.1 rebounds per game while shooting 52.3 percent from the floor in
2008-09…earned three-straight Central Lakes Offensive Player of the Year awards,
along with three-straight all-conference nods from 2006-09…named to the Associated Press all-state Second Team during
the 2007-08 season, in addition to an honorable mention nod in 2008-09…shot
79.4 from the line a season ago.
“Angela can score
in many ways,” Stephens said. “She has the ability to shoot the three, the pull
up jumper and draw fouls. She also has
an uncanny ability to find open players with her passing ability.”
CARLY GRENFELL
5-8 • Guard
York High School
York, Neb.
Off guard who averaged 13.3 points and 4.3 assists for
York High School in 2008-09…earned first team all-Central Conference honors as
a junior and second team laurels as a sophomore…named to the Lincoln Journal Star and Omaha World Herald Honorable Mention
all-state Team following the 2008-09 season… scored a career-high 26 points vs.
Centennial High Dec. 9, 2008…an ace from three-point range, Grenfell drained 42
of York's 65 threes a season ago…Tallied 50 steals in 20 games as a junior.
“Carly is our first
Nebraska recruit since I've been at Drake so we're excited to add her name to
next year's roster,” said Stephens. “Carly can shoot the three ball as well as
any player I have recruited and she is
an excellent passer.”
ALYSSA MARSCHNER
5-10 • Guard
Robbinsdale
Armstrong High School
Minneapolis, Minn.
Off guard average 12 points, 4.4 rebounds in 2008-09…multi-sport
star at Armstrong High School with letters in lacrosse and soccer in addition
to basketball…earned all-Classic Lake Conference honors as a junior in addition
to Honorable Mention honors as a sophomore…ranked fifth on Armstrong's all-time
assist list with 254 assists (3.8 pg)…scored a career-high 20 points vs. St.
Francis as a junior…helped her team to a 21-5 record as a junior…all-conference
goalkeeper in soccer for 2008…has played with the AAU Minnesota Metro Stars for
six years, helping the team to four-straight AAU state titles.
“Alyssa can play
either the point or the off-guard position so she will give us added depth and
versatility to our guard play,” Stephens said. “She is a tremendous passer and
can get the ball to the right players in the right position.”
MORGAN REID
6-0 • Guard
North Kansas City
High School
North Kansas City,
Mo.
Off guard averaged 18.7 points and 9.1 rebounds per game
at North Kansas City High School in 2008-09… earned two-straight first team
all-Suburban Big 7 Conference nods as a sophomore and junior…tallied a
career-high 31 points and 17 rebounds last February against Oak Park High
School…won the Missouri State championship in the triple jump last spring.
“Morgan also will
add size and athleticism to our guard line-up,” said Stephens. “She has good
speed and quickness and a great jump shot.
Her versatility is her greatest strength.”
