OMAHA, NEB. -
Avenging an earlier setback this season, Creighton earned a 3-0 (25-20, 25-21,
25-20) decision over Drake in Missouri Valley Conference volleyball action
on Saturday (Nov. 7).
The Bulldogs held leads in each of the first two frames but
weren't able to maintain momentum as Drake dropped to 18-10 overall and 7-7 in
league play, while the Bluejays pushed their ledger to 10-14 on the year and an
identical 7-7 record in MVC action.
"Our defensive focus was not sharp tonight as we missed some
assignments against a very good offensive team in Creighton," Bulldog head
coach Phil McDaniel commented. "We need to bounce back in a non-conference
match at South Dakota on Monday. Tonight's
outcome doesn't change our goals, it doesn't change what we're doing as were still
hopeful we will play well enough to get into the MVC Tournament and now we have
to get ready for next weekend."
Drake was done in offensively by registering only a .072 hitting
percentage compared to Creighton's .220.
Senior Chelsea Lauersdorf (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) led Drake with an 18-assist and
11-dig performance for her team-leading eighth double-double of the season.
Redshirt freshman Emily Heffernen (Manchester, Iowa/West Delaware) contributed 11 kills and four
blocks on the night.
Junior Alana Wittenburg (Readlyn, Iowa/Wapsie Valley) had 14 digs.
Creighton bettered the Bulldogs in kills (41-39), assists
(39-37), service aces (3-1) and blocks (11.0-6.0), while digs were all square
at 58.
Drake will close out its road swing playing at South Dakota
this Monday night (Nov. 9) in a 6:00 p.m. tilt.
