Northern Iowa Snaps Drake's Four-Game Winning Streak

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA --  Center Lizzie Boeck sank two free throws with 17 seconds left to rally Northern Iowa to a 60-58 Missouri Valley Conference women's basketball victory past Drake, snapping the Bulldogs' four-game winning streak Thursday night.

Drake had a chance to tie or grab the lead on its ensuing possession, but junior guard Jordann Plummer (St. Louis, Mo./Cardinal Ritter) was called for a charging foul with four seconds left

Boeck was fouled with two seconds left after receiving the inbounds pass, but she missed both of her free throw attempts. Plummer's desperation shot beyond half court came up short.

Drake squandered a 56-47 lead as Northern Iowa scored 13 of the last 15 points of the game.

Poor free throw shooting proved costly for the Bulldogs who converted only 11 of 21 free throws.

“I am disappointed,” said Drake head coach Amy Stephens. “We could have been up by 20 if we had made our free-throws.”

Meanwhile, the Panthers made their first 14 free throws before Boeck missed the two free throws with two seconds left.

“It all comes back to free throws no matter how you look at it,” commented Stephens.

Plummer led Drake with 15 points, six rebounds and three assists. Freshman Amber Wollschlager (Milbank, S.D./Milbank) added 14 points and five rebounds.  Senior Lauren Dybing (Bloomington, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) collected 13 points and three blocked shots.

Senior Kelsey Keizer (Arnolds Park, Iowa/Okoboji) grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Drake opened the second half on a 19-7 run to take its biggest lead of 13, 49-36, at the 6:36 mark.

Drake fell to 16-9 overall, including a 10-4 league mark, entering a Saturday game at Bradley

Northern Iowa, which ranked ninth in the MVC in three-point shooting, hit eight treys beyond the arc for 40 percent

Drake shot 51 percent from the floor, making 22-of 43 shots. The Bulldogs had a slim rebounding margin, 33-32. The Panthers had the edge in points off turnovers (14-13), second-chance points (13-4) and bench points (26-9).
