SAINT LOUIS, MO. - For the second time in as many days the Drake women's tennis squad came out on the short end of a 4-3 decision as Saint Louis edged the Bulldogs on Saturday (Feb. 21).
Drake now stands at 3-7 on the year, while the Billikens improved their ledger to 3-6.
Saint Louis ultimately won the contest on the doubles court where the Billikens earned decisions at the Nos. 1 and 2 positions to claim what proved to be the deciding point in the affair.
Freshmen
Gabriela Demos (Chesterfield, Mo.),
Morgan Rainey (Kansas City, Mo.) and
Jessica Aguilera (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) accounted for Drake's singles victories with wins at the second, third and fourth slots, respectively.
Demos downed Casey Miller, 6-2, 6-2, while Rainey and Aguilera each rallied from first-set deficits to lay claim to triumphs. Rainey bested Maureen Rielley, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3, while Aguilera registered a 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 win against Joe Becker.
Drake is now out of competition until March 7 when the Bulldogs travel to Chicago, Ill., for a match versus DePaul at 1:00 p.m.
