DES MOINES, IOWA - The Drake women's tennis team remained undefeated this season at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center as the Bulldogs posted a 5-2 Missouri Valley Conference victory over Creighton on Saturday (April 18).
Drake improved its record 11-10 overall and 5-2 in the MVC, while the Bluejays dropped to 13-8 on the campaign and 1-6 in league competition.
The Bulldogs grabbed momentum from the start taking all three doubles matches to assume a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Freshman
Jessica Aguilera (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) extended the margin to 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Kelsey Schmidt at the No. 4 position.
Senior
Kari Sloboth (Omaha, Neb.) added a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Pat McMullen at No. 5 to bring Drake within one point of earning the win.
Creighton pulled out the decision at No. 1 before freshman
Gabriela Demos (Chesterfield, Mo.) sealed the Bulldog victory besting Lauren Mastro at the No. 2 slot, 6-4, 6-1.
Sophomore
Jessica Labarte (Barcelona, Venezuela) rounded out the winning downing Nicole Nakoaka at No. 3, 5-7, 6-2, 10-2.
Drake closes out its regular season campaign on Sunday (April 19) hosting Wichita State at 11:00 a.m. before opening play at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship on Friday (April. 24) against a yet-to-be determined opponent
