DES MOINES, IOWA - The Drake women's tennis got beat by the best the Missouri Valley Conference has to offer on Sunday (April 19) as regular season champion Wichita State dealt the Bulldogs their first home loss of the season, 6-1, at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

The Shockers concluded their regular season with an 18-5 mark, including a perfect 8-0 in the MVC, while Drake wrapped up its slated at 11-11 overall and 5-3 in league play.

Wichita State swept the doubles matches.  In spite of suffering a setback at the No. 1 position, senior Sarah Plowman (Halifax, Nova Scotia) played in her final home collegiate tennis match.

Fellow senior Veronika Leszayova (Povazska Bystrica, Slovak Republic) won her final Drake home contest bettering Anna Egorova at the top singles hole, 7-5, 5-7, 10-7, to account for the Bulldogs' lone tally.

Senior Kari Sloboth (Omaha, Neb.) just missed adding another point to Drake's total as she fell in three sets to Lenore Lazaroui, 7-5, 5-7, 1-0, at the No. 5 position.

The Bulldogs open play at the State Farm MVC Championship on Friday (April 24) against a yet-to-be determined opponent.
