TERRE HAUTE, IND. - The Drake volleyball team lost its second Missouri Valley Conference match of the season, falling to Indiana State, 3-0, (28-30, 21-25, 22-25) Saturday night. The loss snapped a six-match winning streak against the Sycamores.
Drake fell to 11-5 overall, including a 2-2 MVC mark.
"Overall it was a disappointing night after such a great win last night," said Drake head coach Phil McDaniel. "They came out ready to play and we just didn't match their intensity."
Junior outside hitters Angela Bys (Marion, Iowa/Marion) and Alisa DeBerg Roth (Hudson, Iowa/Hudson) and redshirt freshman middle blocker Emily Heffernen (Manchester, Iowa/West Delaware) led the Bulldogs with seven kills apiece.
Senior setter Chelsea Lauersdorf (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) had a team-high 24 assists along with six kills and seven digs. Sophomore setter Caitlin Johnson (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore Community) added eight assists and seven digs in the effort.
Senior outside hitter Emily Madden (Van Meter, Iowa/Adel DeSoto Minburn) had 10 digs, six kills and three block assists and sophomore middle blocker Michelle Reidy (Dubuque, Iowa/Wahlert Catholic) added six kills and a team-high five block assists.
Team numbers were close as the Bulldogs held a slight advantage in kills (44-42), assists (42-41) and blocks (8-5). The Sycamores bettered Drake in hitting percentage (.153-.146) and digs (61-55), while service aces were even at three apiece.
The Bulldogs continues MVC play, hosting Missouri State Friday (Oct. 2) and Wichita State, Saturday (Oct. 3). Each match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
