DES MOINES, IOWA - The Drake
women's tennis team displayed a warrior's spirit but in the end came up short
in a 6-1 setback to Kansas State on Sunday (Jan. 31) at the Roger Knapp Tennis
Center.
The Bulldogs held late advantages at the top two doubles positions but
were unable to capitalize as the Wildcats swept all three contests to claim the
doubles point.
Kansas State took the first two singles contests at the Nos. 1 and 5
positions to assume a 3-0 lead before sophomore Gabriela Demos (Chesterfield, Mo.) registered a 6-2, 6-2 triumph
over Ana Gomez Aleman at the No. 2 position.
Coming up short in the third-set tiebreaker was freshman Ali Patterson (Overland Park, Kan.), who
despite taking the initial set, 6-1, against Nina Sertic at No. 3, was unable
to close out the second frame before falling in the third en route to dropping
a 6-1, 5-7, 5-10 decision.
The Bulldogs return to the court on Friday (Feb. 5) as Drake hosts
in-state rival Iowa State at 5:00 p.m.
