PEORIA, ILL. -
The Drake University volleyball team earned a four-set (25-13, 25-20, 25-27, 25-22)
Missouri Valley Conference victory over Bradley Sunday, passing the 20-win
plateau for the ninth time in program history.
Sophomore Whitney
Westrum (Waukee, Iowa) turned in her fourth-straight double-double after
logging 19 digs and tying a career high with 12 kills. Westrum also tallied 12
kills last Friday at No. 14 Northern Iowa.
Junior setter Caitlin
Johnson (Sycamore, Illinois) earned her third-straight double-double with
15 digs and a game-high 26 assists.
Johnson now has 12 double-doubles on the season, the most of any Drake
player.
Senior outside
hitter Angela Bys (Marion, Iowa)
totaled a game-high 14 kills and hit .351. Sophomore Emily Heffernen (Manchester, Iowa) tallied 10 kills on 25 swings to
log her eighth contest with 10 or more kills.
The Bulldogs outblocked Bradley by an 18-6 margin, led by
eight total blocks from junior Michelle
Reidy (Dubuque, Iowa) and seven from Heffernen. Heffernen also logged a
game-best .360 attack percentage, teaming with Bys to give Drake a .201-.057 advantage
in that department over Bradley.
Drake improved to 20-6 on the season and 5-6 in MVC play.
The Bulldogs host Illinois State Friday, Oct. 29 at 7
p.m.
