Drake Drops Bradley In Four Sets

PEORIA, ILL. - The Drake University volleyball team earned a four-set (25-13, 25-20, 25-27, 25-22) Missouri Valley Conference victory over Bradley Sunday, passing the 20-win plateau for the ninth time in program history.

Sophomore Whitney Westrum (Waukee, Iowa) turned in her fourth-straight double-double after logging 19 digs and tying a career high with 12 kills. Westrum also tallied 12 kills last Friday at No. 14 Northern Iowa.

Junior setter Caitlin Johnson (Sycamore, Illinois) earned her third-straight double-double with 15 digs and a game-high 26 assists.  Johnson now has 12 double-doubles on the season, the most of any Drake player.

Senior outside hitter Angela Bys (Marion, Iowa) totaled a game-high 14 kills and hit .351. Sophomore Emily Heffernen (Manchester, Iowa) tallied 10 kills on 25 swings to log her eighth contest with 10 or more kills.

The Bulldogs outblocked Bradley by an 18-6 margin, led by eight total blocks from junior Michelle Reidy (Dubuque, Iowa) and seven from Heffernen. Heffernen also logged a game-best .360 attack percentage, teaming with Bys to give Drake a .201-.057 advantage in that department over Bradley.

Drake improved to 20-6 on the season and 5-6 in MVC play.

The Bulldogs host Illinois State Friday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
