LINCOLN, NEB. - In its first encounter with a
ranked opponent this spring the Drake women's tennis team came up on the short
end of a 7-0 decision at No. 51 Nebraska on Saturday (Feb. 13).
The Cornhuskers stole
the early momentum in the affair carving out victories in all three doubles
matches to assume a 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs most
productive tilts came at the top two singles positions where freshman Manca Krizman (Solkan,
Slovenia) and sophomore Gabriela Demos (Chesterfield, Mo.) were the lone Drake players to
register more than two points in a set on the afternoon.
The duo were the last
two contests remaining on the court and Demos finished first falling 6-4, 6-4
to Mary Weatherholt at the No. 2 position.
Krizman represented
the Bulldogs best shot at victory but ultimately dropped a 6-7 (11), 6-1, 10-3
decision to Stefanie Weinstein
Drake closes out its
weekend road swing facing Air Force in a 10:00 a.m. match on Sunday (Feb. 14).
