LINCOLN, NEB. - The Drake women's tennis team
continues to be a work in progress and its ability to win the close sets will
ultimately prove the difference between setback and victory and for the
Bulldogs they suffered another tough lesson in dropping a 7-0 decision to Air
Force on Sunday (Feb. 14).
The Falcons claimed
the doubles point in the affair despite a strong effort from the Drake tandem
of freshman Manca Krizman (Solkan, Slovenia) and sophomore Gabriela Demos (Chesterfield, Mo.), who registered
an 8-5 triumph over Allie Chermel and Hannah Drake at the top doubles position.
The Bulldogs were
unable to claim victory in singles but garnered solid performances at the top
four slots as Krizman, Demos, freshman Ali Patterson (Overland Park, Kan.) and sophomore
Jessica Aguilera
(Santa Cruz, Bolivia) forced Air Force to work to claim every point.
For the second
consecutive match this weekend, Krizman went the distance but was unable to
secure a three-set victory as Christen Monreal recorded a 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 win.
Drake returns to
action next Saturday (Feb. 20) hosting Rockhurst in an 11:00 a.m. contest.
