Lansing Captures Top Medalist Honors To Lead Women's Golf To Second-Place Showing At MVC Tournament

NEWBURGH, IND. - Senior Olivia Lansing (Dellwood, Minn.) captured top medalist honors for the second time in her distinguished Drake career firing a final round 72 to lead the Bulldogs to a second-place finish at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship on Tuesday (April 20) at the Rolling Hills Country Club.

Drake fired a final round 308 to finish 14 shots off the pace of league champion Illinois State, who captured the MVC's automatic NCAA Championship berth carding a 301 for a three-day total of 909 (307-301-301=909).

The Bulldogs finished the tournament with a 923 (306-309-308=923) cumulative score and were followed by Indiana State (319-311-304=934), Northern Iowa (313-315-310=938), Missouri State (314-313-315=942), Wichita State (315-320-316=951), Southern Illinois (320-324-310=954), Bradley (319-322-319=960), Creighton (334-314-320=968) and Evansville (335-335-333=1003).

"As a team we played steady throughout the tournament although not as well as we're capable of playing," Drake head coach Scott Bohlender commented.  "We shot our average when we needed to shot a little better in order to give ourselves an opportunity to win as Illinois State is very strong in its top three players.  We gave it a good run and we have nothing to be ashamed of."

Lansing's round was her second 72 of the three-day tournament and represented the low score for the tournament collectively.

"Olivia has been one of the top golfers in the MVC over the last three years and she went out and played her game today," said Bohlender.  "She had a good game plan and she stuck to it.  She was paired with Laura Harris of Illinois State, who she was battling for the lead, and coming down the stretch Harris made a mistake triple bogeying 15 and other than that hole it was a dead heat."

Senior Elena Vukmir (Wauwatosa, Wis.) fired a 76 in the final round to finished tied for 15th (81-79-76=236), while senior Amanda Vogt (Melbourne, Iowa), junior Michelle Mathwick (Greenfield, Wis.) and senior Kelly Godwin (Centerville, Minn.) finished tied for 18th (79-80-79=238), tied for 21st (75-77-87=239) and tied for 36th (85-78-82=245), respectively.
