DES MOINES, IOWA - The Drake
men's soccer team, under the leadership of 13th-year head coach Sean Holmes, has announced the addition
of 13 student-athletes joining the Bulldogs' squad for the 2010 campaign.
Donning the Drake uniform will be:
Jared Arde (Gulfport, Miss./Gulfport), Max
Brewer (Olathe, Kan./Olathe East), Erik
Boyer (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Cedar Rapids Kennedy), Garrett Crall (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk), Max Duncan (Joplin, Mo./Joplin), Addison Eck (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin), Brian Grand (North Branch, Minn./North
Branch), Bryan Jantsch (Mission
Hills, Kan./Rockhurst), Andrew Kallman
(Omaha, Neb./Millard West), Sean Latz
(Overland Park, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas), Nick
Marshall (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville), Logan North (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) and Kevin Wilson (Ballwin, Mo./Chaminade
College Prep).
"I'm tremendously excited about the potential of this group," Holmes
commented. "Obviously with such a
great core of seniors graduating we had some people to replace. The challenge will be for these guys to
prepare themselves for the next level coming from club or high school being to
be able to compete and train on a daily basis at the Division I level, but
their potential is enormous. With
some application and good fortune I think they can be significant in our
future."
These 13 student-athletes will look to help bolster a Bulldog unit that
captured its first-ever Missouri Valley Conference Tournament crown in 2009 en
route to advancing to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament when Drake opens
its season on Sept. 3 at Michigan.
Arde, from Gulfport High School, was a member of a Mississippi state
championship team as a senior as well as a pair of South State championship
squads en route to registering 75 career goals and 38 assists. A two-time team most valuable player,
was twice named to the Clarion-Ledger
"Top 11" recognizing the top players in Mississippi.
Boyer, from Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School, is a two-time
All-Conference selection having led his team to an appearance in the state
quarterfinals as a freshman. A
member of a conference championship squad as a junior, he owns 35 career goals
and 39 assists.
Brewer, from Olathe East High School, helped guide his team to the
Kansas 6A state title as a junior on the strength of four goals and five
assists. He netted six goals,
while adding seven assists as a senior to propel the Hawks to a berth in the
state quarterfinals.
Crall, from Norwalk High School, registered nine goals and four assists
in helping lead his team to a conference title as a junior. He played on state championship and
state runner-up units as a freshman and sophomore, respectively at Norwalk.
Duncan, from Joplin High School, tallied 19 goals and four assists en
route to collecting second team All-State accolades as a senior. A four-time All-Conference and
three-time All-Region first team honoree, he registered 84 career goals and 51
assists.
Eck was a four-year member of the men's soccer team at Sacred Heart
Griffin High School, a team that finished as the state runner-up during his
junior campaign.
Grand, a two-time All-State selection at North Branch High School,
netted 35 and 32 goals, respectively, in each of his final two seasons to lead
the Minnesota State High School League.
He finished prep career ranked second in goals (96) in MSHSL history.
Jantsch earned All-State accolades as a senior at Rockhurst High School,
leading his team to a district title.
He was a member of state championship squads as both a sophomore and a
junior, while being named an honorable mention All-State honoree as a junior.
Kallman, helped guide Millard West High School to a state title as a
junior. He was a member of two Nebraska State Cup championship teams while
playing for NFC Bellator club team.
Latz collected first team All-State and All-Region accolades as a
senior, leading St. Thomas Aquinas High School to a 21-0 mark, culminating in a
state title and being named the ESPN/adidas National Champion. He was a member of four state
championship squads and was tabbed an All-American and the Kansas City Metro
Player of the Year as a senior.
Marshall, from Edwardsville High School, garnered first team
All-Conference and Co-Conference MVP honors as a senior, leading his squad to a
fourth-place state finish.
North led Francis Howell North High School to a conference and district
crown as a senior en route to being named an honorable mention All-State
selection. He paced the Knights in
scoring in each of his final two prep campaigns.
Wilson directed Chaminade College Prep to a pair of conference titles,
while being named a second team All-State honoree as a senior. He helped anchor a defensive unit that
led the Metro Catholic Conference in goals-against-average (0.4).
