DES MOINES, IOWA -
The Drake University volleyball team took No. 16 UNI to the brink in each game,
but fell in four sets (22-25, 25-22, 21-25, 21-25) to the Panthers Saturday
night in front of a record Knapp Center crowd.
Both teams topped 21 points in each game, including the
decisive fourth set, in which there were five ties.
Senior Angela Bys
(Marion, Iowa) led Drake with 17 kills, including five in the match's final
game. Bys teamed with senior Mikayla Sims (Waterloo, Iowa) for eight of Drake's 13 kills in game two.
Senior setter Susan Clausen (Johnston, Iowa) tallied her second career and second-straight
double-double with 14 assists and 16 digs.
Junior Erika Price
(Littleton, Colo.) tallied 11 digs and was stellar with her serve. Drake scored
13 points on serves by Price, including six-straight and seven total in game
two.
"She's great from behind the line," head coach Phil McDaniel
said. "Her ball floats and is very tough to keep track of."
Paid attendance was announced as 1,843, the largest
volleyball crowd in Knapp Center history. The total topped the old mark of
1,215 set against Iowa just 11 days ago.
"This place gets electric when we get this many people in
here," McDaniel added. "It's a great atmosphere."
Drake fell to 16-2 overall and 2-2 in the Missouri Valley
Conference. UNI improved to 12-2 overall and an MVC-best 4-0 in-conference.
The Bulldogs meet Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind. next
Friday. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
