KANSAS CITY, MO. -
The Drake University volleyball team downed UMKC in three sets (25-22, 25-17,
25-20) to extend its program-best start to 9-0. Junior setter Caitlin Johnson (Sycamore, Ill.)
registered her second double-double of the season with a team-high 19 assists
and 10 digs.
Senior outside hitter Angela Bys (Marion, Iowa) had her streak of five-straight
double-doubles snapped, but was the only player on the floor to tally
double-digit kills. Bys finished with 12 kills.
Senior libero Alana
Wittenburg (Readlyn, Iowa) tied a game high and led Drake with 16 digs.
The Bulldogs put together a 9-3 run in the third set,
turning a 15-12 deficit into a 21-18 lead. Drake was sparked by two service
aces by junior middle blocker Michelle
Reidy (Dubuque, Iowa).
Drake tallied a .243 attack percentage against the
Kangaroos, led by senior Alisa DeBerg
Roth's (Hudson, Iowa) .333 percentage.
The Bulldogs improved to 9-0 on the season, UMKC fell to
3-6.
Drake hosts Green Bay, Idaho State, Stephen F. Austin and
South Dakota in the 2010 Hampton Inn Bulldog Challenge, beginning Friday at 10
a.m.
