PFL Names Piatkowski Offensive Player Of The Week

Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011

DES MOINES, Iowa--Drake quarterback Mike Piatkowski has been recognized by the Pioneer Football League for his record-setting performance Saturday by being named the PFL's Offensive Player of the Week. It is Piatkowski's first Player of the Week honor.

Piatkowski broke the NCAA FCS record for single-game completion percentage (minimum 30 completions) by completing 30 of his 33 pass attempts, 90.9%. He set a new career high for passing yards (342) and tied his career high for touchdown passes (3) in leading the Bulldogs to a 31-14 Pioneer Football League victory.

"We had an awesome game plan and had a great all-around effort," Piatkowski said. "The offensive line did a great job all day with both the run and the pass. The receivers were running great routes and making great catches along with the running backs, and the defense shut down a high-powered offense. It was a great team effort."

The 30 completions tied Drake's single-game record set by Gary Yagelski vs. Tulsa in 1982 (10/23), and his yardage figure eclipsed his personal best set against Missouri S&T in 2009 (10/10). Piatkowski completed 16 consecutive passes in the first half after throwing incomplete on his first attempt.

It is the second consecutive week a Drake player has earned a PFL weekly honor, following defensive end Brandon Coleman's Defensive Player of the Week honor for games of Sept. 24.

Piatkowski has thrown for more than 300 yards twice this season and three times now in his career.
