Bulldog Football Introduces New Coaching Staff

New names combine with familiar faces as Drake builds toward 2026 team

DES MOINES, Iowa – Newly hired Drake football head coach Matt Walker has announced the finalization of his coaching staff. The Bulldogs' coaching unit has built individual and collective achievements at multiple levels of football and will feature new faces combined with members from the 2025 PFL championship staff. This group of leaders will continue the Bulldogs' sustained success in the Pioneer Football League and FCS football altogether.

The 2026 Drake Football Coaching Staff includes:
Joe Matheson and Mark Sipple headline the group of newcomers to the Drake coaching staff as Offensive and Defensive Coordinators, respectively. Matheson comes to Des Moines after orchestrating the vaunted "Top Gun" offense alongside Coach Walker at UW-River Falls. Sipple also steps up the FCS level after successfully coordinating the defense at NCAA Division II schools Augustana University and St. Cloud State University.

Other newcomers include Kristian Crabb, Parker Kizer, and Seth Howard, three former UWRF assistants, and Myles Taylor, a former Sipple underling at Augustana.

Drake fans will also see several familiar faces patrolling the sidelines this season, some with adjusted titles. Drew Adams and Jacob Brown return their position groups to coach wide receivers and cornerbacks, respectively. AJ Vasquez remains on the defensive side of the ball but will shift to the linebacker room while Bobby Cade Mornhinweg is set to coach the defensive line and coordinate special teams. Tanner Ash also returns to the Bulldog coaching staff to lead the running backs and serve as Coordinator of Player Development.
