TULSA, Okla. - Junior Anis Ghorbel's (Sfax, Tunisia) bid to
claim the men's singles title at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA)
Central Regional came up just short as Tsvetan Mihov of Oklahoma garnered a 7-6
(2), 7-6 (5) triumph in Tuesday's (Oct. 25) championship match.
"I'm really happy for Anis' breakthrough performance this week in
Tulsa," Drake head coach Evan Austin
commented. "He's set himself up to
have a special year for us. He's
put in a great deal of work over the past year and his results are showing."
Ghorbel was attempting to become the first Bulldog to earn a singles
title at the ITA Central Regional.
Ghorbel is expected to make his debut in the upcoming ITA national
singles rankings and he remains in contention for one of six at-large berth
into next week's ITA National Indoors in New York City.
The Bulldogs kick off their spring campaign hosting the State Farm
Missouri Valley Conference Individuals (Jan. 20-22) at the Roger Knapp Tennis
Center.
