TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Drake University volleyball team dropped a four-set Missouri Valley Conference match at Indiana State, Saturday. Match scores were 27-29, 25-20, 13-25, 17-25.
Drake (9-18, 5-8 MVC) was outhit .283-to-.166 and
fell 14 kills short (59-45) of the Sycamores. The Bulldogs' standing in
the Valley race was unaffected by the loss; Drake remains in sixth place
- two matches up on Evansville, Southern Illinois and Indiana State.
Senior Michelle Reidy (Dubuque, Iowa/Wahlert) led
Drake with a .368 hitting percentage and totaled 10 kills. Junior
Bentley Mancini (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley) tallied a team-best 11
kills.
Drake and Indiana State traded kills for the
majority of game one. With the score tied at 27, Sycamore middle blocker
Stacy Qualizza totaled back-to-back kills to give Indiana State a 29-27
first-set victory. Qualizza hit a match-high .483 and totaled 17 kills
on the night. Mancini tallied seven of her 11 kills in the opening set.
Reidy and Mancini combined for seven kills in Drake's 25-20 win in game two.
Junior Sarah Madden (Van Meter, Iowa/Adel-DeSoto-Minburn) notched two
service aces in game two. Eight of Drake's 25 second-set points were
scored with Madden serving.
The Bulldogs return to the Knapp Center to host Missouri State next Friday, Nov. 4.
