DES MOINES, Iowa - The Drake University volleyball team
fell, 3-0 (19-25, 13-25, 15-25) at Wichita State, Friday at Charles Koch Arena.
The Bulldogs fell to 6-13 overall and 2-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Junior Whitney Westrum (Waukee, Iowa/Waukee) led Drake with
10 kills and was the lone Bulldog performer in double figures on the night. Her
effort gave her a team-best 216 kills on the season.
Junior libero Sarah Madden (Van Meter,
Iowa/Adel-DeSoto-Minburn) totaled a team-best 12 digs on the night.
Senior setter Caitlin Johnson (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore
Community) added 23 assists to put her over the 700-assist mark on the season.
Johnson currently has 704 assists.
The Bulldogs were outhit by Wichita State .412 to .114
during the contest. The shockers totaled 15 total blocks on the night compared
to Drake's six.
Wichita State's Sam Sanders led the Shockers with 12 kills
and hit .524 for the match.
The Shockers totaled five service aces against Drake,
including two each by Camri Zqiesler and preseason all-MVC selection Emily
Adney. Adney totaled 11 kills and 13 digs for the match's lone double-double.
The Bulldogs travel to Springfield, Mo. to take on Missouri
State in a 7 p.m. matchup on Saturday. The Bears dealt Wichita State one of its
two MVC losses with a 3-0 sweep in September.
