CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The Drake University volleyball team
fell 3-0 at No. 12 UNI Saturday, dropping its record to 9-22 overall and 5-12
in the Missouri Valley Conference. Game scores were 9-25, 20-25, 12-25.
Junior Bentley Mancini (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley) led
Drake with eight kills on the night. Junior Whitney Westrum (Waukee,
Iowa/Waukee) and senior Michelle Reidy (Dubuque, Iowa/Wahlert) tallied six kills
each for the Bulldogs. Freshman Amanda Platte (Mount Vernon, Iowa/Mount Vernon)
came off the bench for a career-high five kills.
The Panthers opened on an 8-1 run and led by as much as 20-4
in the opening set. Five players posted at least eight kills for UNI, led by
Shelby Kintzel, Michelle Burow and Krista DeGeest's nine.
Junior Sarah Madden (Van Meter, Iowa/Adel-DeSoto-Minburn)
led the Bulldogs with 13 digs.
Senior Caitlin Johnson (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) tallied 18
assists and six digs.
The Bulldogs hit just .090 for the game and committed 20
attack errors compared to UNI's 10.
Drake returns home for its final match in the Knapp Center
when it takes on Creighton Saturday at 7 p.m. Four seniors; Johnson, Reidy,
Erika Price(Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge) and Mikayla Sims (Waterloo,
Iowa/Waterloo East) and junior Emily Heffernen (Manchester, Iowa/West Delaware)
will be playing in their final home match.
