DES MOINES, Iowa -
The Drake University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Wichita State,
Saturday at the Knapp Center. The loss moved the Bulldogs to 9-20 overall and
5-10 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Game scores were 19-25, 12-25, 13-25.
At 5-10, Drake is now tied with Indiana State for the sixth and
final invitation to the State Farm MVC Championship in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Indiana State moved to 5-10 in the Valley with a 3-1 victory at Southern
Illinois on Saturday.
The Shockers (15-9, 9-5 MVC) hit .402 for the match,
including .472 in their 25-12 second-set victory. The Bulldogs hit .191 on the
night, led by senior Michelle Reidy's (Dubuque, Iowa/Wahlert) .500 clip. Reidy
finished the night with seven kills in 14 swings and added two solo blocks.
Junior Whitney Westrum (Waukee, Iowa/Waukee) totaled a
team-high eight kills, while adding two assists and six digs. Senior Caitlin Johnson (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore Community) tallied 23 assists and five digs.
Wichita State built a 58-43 advantage in the dig column, in addition
to its efficient attack percentage. The Shockers also tallied five service
errors, compared to none for Drake.
Drake meets Bradley in Peoria, Ill. next Friday night. First
serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
