DECEMBER 1, 2011
DES MOINES, Iowa - Drake
senior men's soccer player Matt Kuhn
(Raytown, Mo./Raytown South) added another award to his burgeoning resume as he
was selected a first-team honoree to the
2011 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Men's Soccer Team, as chosen
by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Kuhn becomes only the second Bulldog to earn first-team accolades,
joining Brian Wurst, who was named to the first team in 2009.
"This is a wonderful honor for Matt and the entire program," Drake head
coach Sean Holmes commented. "He embodies what a student-athlete should
be. To get his MBA with a perfect
4.0 GPA in 4.5 years, be such an integral part of our Elite Eight team in 2009,
sit out 2010 then come back this year and be our leading scorer as a midfielder,
sort of sums up what type of guy Matt is."
An accounting major, Kuhn highlighted the squad owning a perfect 4.00
graduate school GPA, the highest GPA on the 11-member first team. He is the first Drake player to earn honors
twice on the national squad after collecting second-team laurels in 2009.
He led Drake in goals (11), points (26) and game-winners (3), while
sitting third in shots (44) and shots on goal (20), en route to being tabbed to
the All-Missouri Valley Conference first team. Kuhn became only the fifth
Bulldog to earn first-team All-MVC Scholar-Athlete accolades three times, collecting
honors in 2008, 2009 and this season.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important
reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at
his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in
at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the
nomination form (where applicable).
