MOINES, IOWA - The
Drake women's tennis team opened its home campaign with a 6-1 triumph over
Gustavus Adolphus (2-1) in the first of two matches for the Bulldogs (1-3) on
Saturday (Feb. 12) at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
After splitting the first two
doubles matches, the tandem of junior Jessica Aguilera (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) and
freshman Klavdija Rebol
(Kranj, Slovenia) earned the doubles point for Drake on the strength of their
8-3 triumph over Alex Erickson and Julie Bardenwerper at No. 1.
In singles, Aguilera and junior Amanda Aragon (Fort Collins, Colo.)
extended the margin to 3-0 following victories at the Nos. 4 and 5 positions.
Aguilera downed Erickson, 6-0,
6-0, before Aragon bested Maria Bryan, 6-3, 6-0.
Securing the win for Drake at the
top singles slot was sophomore Manca Krizman (Solkan, Slovenia), who registered a 6-1, 6-2,
decision over Sam Frank.
Rounding of the victory total for
the Bulldogs were Rebol and junior Gabriela Demos (Chesterfield, Mo.) and at the second
and third slots, respectively.
