DES MOINES, IOWA - The Drake women's tennis team collected a 6-1 triumph over
UMKC on Saturday (Feb. 26) at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center to extend its
winning streak to four straight matches.
After failing to win a doubles match earlier in the day
versus Chicago State, the Bulldogs rebounded to sweep the doubles competition
against the Kangaroos.
Clinching the doubles point was the tandem of junior Amanda Aragon (Fort
Collins, Colo.) and senior Jessica Labarte (Barcelona, Venezuela), who downed Gabriela Pintos
and Jessica Ball at No. 3, 8-4.
In singles, triumphs by freshman Klavdija Rebol (Kranj, Slovenia) and junior Jessica Aguilera (Santa
Cruz, Bolivia) at the Nos. 3 and 4 positions extended Drake's lead to 3-0
before junior Gabriela Demos (Chesterfield, Mo.) clinched the match besting Laura Bouet
at No. 2, 6-4, 6-2.
Aguilera collected a 6-1, 6-0, triumph over Suzan Lisenby,
while Rebol defeated Chelsea Horner, 6-1, 6-2.
The Bulldogs also gained victories from sophomore Manca Krizman (Solkan,
Slovenia) and Aragon on courts No. 1 and 5, respectively.
The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday (Feb. 27) as Drake
hosts North Dakota at 10:00 a.m. at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
