Ind. - In its first
competition of the fall campaign, the Drake men's tennis team posted a 6-3
combined singles/doubles ledger in first-day action at the Purdue Fall
Invitational on Friday (Sept. 16).
Junior James McKie (Edinburgh,
Scotland) moved into the round of 16 with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Matija
Palinic of DePaul in the 'A' singles draw.
In the 'B' singles
flight, senior Cesar Bracho (Luque, Paraguay) registered a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 victory
against Richard Brunsting of Case Western Reserve.
In the top doubles
draw, the duo of McKie and junior Jean Erasmus (Windhoek, Namibia) posted a pair
of wins as the duo downed Kyle Gerber and Nicholas Howe of Case Western
Reserve, 8-2, before besting Filip Dzanko and Sven Kasper of DePaul, 8-5.
Action continues at
the Purdue Fall Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 17) with play getting underway
at 7:30 a.m. CT.
