The Drake men's
tennis team opened the Drake Fall Invitational in style as the tandem of junior
Anis Ghorbel (Sfax,
Tunisia) and freshman Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina) went 4-0 to claim the doubles crown in the 'A'
flight on Friday (Sept. 23) at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
The duo opened their
competition downing Jeff Carlson and Michael Moya of Northern Colorado, 8-1,
before reaching the semifinal round with an 8-1 decision over Tyler Johnson and
Joe MacGibbon of Gustavus Adolphus.
Ghorbel and Salibasic
claimed a spot in the finals dispatching of Creighton's JT Christian and Kyle
Obermeier, 8-3.
In the championship
tilt, the tandem earned the crown defeating Amrik Donkena and Mya Smith-Dennis
of Gustavus Adolphus, 8-6.
The Bulldogs continue
action at the Drake Fall Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 24) as singles play
gets underway at 9:00 a.m. at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
