DES MOINES, Iowa -
The Drake University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-14)
decision to Wyoming, Saturday during day two of the Sheraton West Des Moines
Drake Invitational. The loss put Drake at 2-3 overall.
For head coach Tony Sunga and junior outside hitter Jadranka
Tramosljani, the loss served as their first competition against their former
school, but according to Sunga, not something to dwell on.
"The match is done and we need to move on," he said. "We
need to be better at leaving behind what has happened - win or lose - and focusing
on what's ahead."
Juniors Whitney
Westrum (Waukee, Iowa/Waukee) and Emily
Heffernen (Manchester, Iowa/West Delaware) led Drake with nine kills each.
Senior Michelle Reidy (Dubuque,
Iowa/Wahlert) added six kills and hit an impressive .556 from the floor.
"Our middles carried us throughout the match," Sunga said. "We
need our pin players to step up."
Wyoming outhit Drake .494 to .108 and was led by Winterset
High School graduate Jodi Purdy's 10-kill, 14-dig double-double.
The Bulldogs meet Milwaukee, currently 2-0 in Drake
Invitational play, tonight at 7:30 p.m.
