DENVER, Colo. - The Drake University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches, Friday,
to open its Pioneer Classic slate. The Bulldogs fell, 3-1 (13-25, 25-20, 17-25,
23-25) to Missouri and 3-0 (23-25, 19-25, 16-25) to UC Davis to move to 2-6 on
the season.
Junior Whitney Westrum (Waukee, Iowa/Waukee) totaled 15 kills in 40 swings against Missouri,
registering a .225 hitting percentage. The Bulldogs hit just .061 for the
match, compared to .213 for the Tigers.
Sophomore Stacie Hansen (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southwest) totaled a career-best 10 kills, while
transfer Jadranka Tramosljani (Ruma, Serbia/Postal) notched 10 digs in back row
action.
Westrum added 11
kills against UC Davis while junior Bentley Mancini (Burnsville, Minn./Apple
Valley) added nine.
The Bulldogs were
outdug 38-28 by UC Davis, with no Drake performer totaling double-digit digs.
Senior Caitlin Johnson (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore Community) totaled 29 assists in both
contests.
The Bulldogs wrap up
their Pioneer Classic slate with matchups against Denver (Noon) and Texas-San
Antonio (4 p.m.) on Saturday.
