Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Missouri State volleyball
team beat the Drake volleyball team, 3-1, Friday night at the Hammons Student
Center.
With
the win Missouri State improves to 16-13 overall and 10-7 in the Missouri
Valley Conference and the defeat drops Drake to 5-23 overall and 4-13 in the
MVC. Game sets were 25-11, 22-25, 25-19 and 25-16.
Drake sophomore Erin Roggenburg (Ankeny, Iowa) finished
with 12 kills to set her new career-high and added two digs and two block
assists. Middle blocker Cassie Effken
(Lincoln, Neb.) posted seven kills, three digs, a block and two block assists
as she continues to impress in her freshman season. Setters Halli Meyer (Bettendorf, Iowa) and Rebecca Brown (Bentonville, Ark.)
guided the Bulldog attack with 26 assists and 16 assists, respectively.
Missouri State finished
the evening with 66 kills, 65 assists and 85 digs. Andrea Beaty tallied a
career-high 17 kills and Carly Thomas had a match-high 49 assists.
Missouri State
overpowered Drake in the opening set winning 25-11. The Bears smashed 17 kills
with just three attack errors and finished with a .536 hitting percentage.
Kaitlin Jaeger and Beaty each had five kills for the Bears. Roggenburg paced
Drake with three kills in the set.
The Bulldogs bounced
back in the second set with a 25-22 win. Drake fell behind 14-12 after a kill
by Christine McCartney before rallying with a 5-0 run to go ahead 17-14. The
two teams sat tied at 20-20 after a kill by Beaty. A kill by Roggenburg and a
block assist by Katie Dulek (Lenexa,
Kan.) and Amanda Platte (Mount
Vernon, Iowa) pushed the Bulldogs back in front, 22-20 and they closed out the
set with another Roggenburg kill.
Drake and Missouri
State exchanged points early in the third set as neither team held more than a
two-point lead until the Bears built an 18-15 lead. Drake cut the lead to 18-17
after another block assist this one from Dulek and Roggenburg but that would be
as close as the Blue and White would get. The Bears closed out the set with
seven of the final nine points, the last on a kill by Beaty, 25-19. Dulek and
Effken each had three kills.
The Bears took
control of the fourth set with a 12-2 run to build a commanding 22-13 lead.
Missouri State scored three of the last six points to take the match, 25-16. Roggenburg
smashed three kills to lead the offensive attack in the set.
Drake will close its
season tomorrow night at Wichita State. The match will start at 7 p.m. and live
