Box Score DES MOINES, Iowa - The Drake volleyball team lost to
Illinois State, 3-0, Friday night at the Knapp Center. Amanda Platte (Mount Vernon, Iowa) led the Bulldogs offensively
with a match-high 11 kills and Katie Dulek (Lenexa, Kan.) added nine kills and four blocks. Drake honored each
student-athletes' set of parents before the match and were presented flowers by their
respective daughter.
Games scores were 25-21, 25-23 and 25-10 as the loss dropped
the Bulldogs to 4-22 overall and 3-12 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Illinois State improves to 15-10 overall and 9-6 in the MVC with the victory.
Sarah Madden (Van
Meter, Iowa) continued her outstanding season with a match-high 22 digs on the
night. The senior entered the match leading the conference in digs per set at
5.84 and ranked ninth nationally. Jadranka Tramosljanin (Ruma, Serbia) and Rebecca Brown (Bentonville, Ark.) also added 10 digs apiece.
Brown led the
Bulldogs in assists with 17, followed closely by Halli Meyer (Bettendorf, Iowa) with 14. Drake committed 32 errors
compared to Illinois State's 13.
Set one started off well for the Bulldogs. The two teams
traded points until Drake went ahead 8-7 on a teardrop shot by Dulek. The
Bulldogs were able to extend the lead to 12-9 before the Redbirds battled back
after a few unforced errors by Drake to tie the score at 17-17. ISU used a 3-0
run to take a 22-19, eventually winning the set, 25-21. Tramosljanin had a great first game with four kills
and one ace. Ashley Rosch and Brooklyn Hlafka each had five kills for the
Redbirds.
Drake battled out to an early lead in set two before
Illinois State rallied back to tie the game at nine a piece. The visitors then
took control of the set with two aces by Jenny Menendez to build a lead of
19-14 and cruised to a 25-23 win. Madden had an impressive set finishing with
nine digs.
Illinois State jumped out to a big early lead in the third
set as Drake struggled to get things going offensively and the Redbirds took
the match win with a 25-10 win.
The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow night against Indiana
State at 7:05 p.m.. Drake defeated the Sycamores, 3-1, earlier this season in Terre Haute.
Drake will honor its two seniors, Tramosljanin and the injured Bentley Mancini
(Burnsville, Minn.) before the match.
