DES MOINES, Iowa - On the
strength of a 7-0 victory over Northern Illinois on Sunday (Feb. 12), the Drake
men's tennis team extended its winning streak to six and completed a perfect
5-0 homestand at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs pulled in the doubles point sweeping all three tilts, with
the duo of junior Jean Erasmus
(Windhoek, Namibia) and sophomore Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England) clinching the deciding tally with an 8-3
decision over Mikhail Titov and Roman Turtygin at No. 2.
Senior Cesar Bracho (Luque,
Paraguay) pushed Drake's lead to 2-0 downing Maximilian Phillips at the No. 6
singles position, 6-3, 6-0.
The Bulldogs climbed to within one point of victory, earning a 3-0
advantage, following junior James McKie's
(Edinburgh, Scotland) 6-0, 6-2 triumph against Turtygin at the top slot.
It was then Goodman earning his second clinching tally of the afternoon registering
a 6-3, 6-0 win versus Titov on court No. 4.
Drake also garnered decisions at the Nos. 2, 3 and 5 positions,
respectively, courtesy of Erasmus, freshman Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina) and freshman Ben Mullis
(Leicestershire, England).
The Bulldogs hit the road next traveling to Lincoln, Neb., for showdowns
against No. 38 Nebraska and 66th-ranked Idaho. The Cornhuskers will test Drake on Friday (Feb. 17) before
the Bulldogs battle the Vandals on Saturday (Feb. 18).
