DES MOINES, Iowa - The Drake women's tennis team
pushed its winning streak to eight straight on Saturday (Feb. 18) as the
Bulldogs downed Chicago State, 7-0, at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
Buoyed by a sweep of
the doubles competition, Drake captured the doubles point on the strength of an
8-3 victory by senior Gabriela Demos (Chesterfield, Mo.) and junior Manca Krizman (Solkan, Slovenia) at No. 1 against
Rosalina and Rosalia Tejoprayitno.
Sophomore Klavdija Rebol (Kranj,
Slovenia) and senior Earlynn Lauer (Wichita, Kan.) extended the Bulldogs' lead to 3-0 with
singles victories at the Nos. 1 and 5 positions.
Rebol downed Rosalina
Tejoprayitno, 6-0, 6-0, before Lauer bested Mysta Townsell, 6-1, 6-3.
Clinching the triumph
for Drake at the No. 2 spot was Krizman, who dealt Rosalia Tejoprayitno a 6-1,
6-2 setback.
The Bulldogs also
benefited from wins at the Nos. 3, 4 and 6 holes from Demos, senior Amanda Aragon (Fort Collins, Colo.) and freshman Amanda Dick (Kenosha,
Wis.).
Drake continues its
homestand next weekend with a trio of contests at the Roger Knapp Tennis
Center. The Bulldogs host Montana
on Friday (Feb. 24) before battling Upper Iowa and Kansas on Saturday (Feb.
25).
