Drake Rowing Team Wins Three Races on Saturday against Wichita State

WICHITA, Kan. - The Drake rowing team won three races against the Wichita State rowing team on Saturday afternoon on the Little Arkansas River in Wichita, Kan.

"Today went really well for the first race with some things that we need to work on for the future," Drake head coach Charlie DiSilvestro said.

The Drake Varsity Eight crew finished in 4:06.5, four seconds ahead of the Wichita State Varsity Eight. The Drake Junior Varsity Eight crew finished in 4:13.0.

In the Varsity Four race, Drake finished 5:06.5 nearly six seconds ahead of the WSU Varsity Four team.

The Drake Novice Eight crew clocked 4.44.6 and topped WSU's Novice Eight crew, who came in at 5:17.1.

"Wichita State was good competition but now we need to get prepared for Tulsa who will be a little faster and stronger," DiSilvestro said.  "We need a good week of training and need to improve our speed to prepare for our races against a strong Tulsa squad."

Drake will spend the next week in Tulsa, Okla. training with the Tulsa University rowing team. The teams will race in an official race sometime this week.
